I just had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Claudia Kotchka, ex-head of Design & Innovation at P&G. It's been a long time since I've laughed so hard. She's so insightful, so dead-on funny, so right to the heart of the matter.
Claudia is now consulting with companies who'd like to try and replicate the design-centric values that P&G has successfully espoused and put into practice, and she's seeing the difficulty of making that change happen.
Even when she was at P&G, Claudia found that people didn't believe her at first when she said her mission was to make design central to their business. She told a great story about how IDEO rejected her as a client based on past bad experiences working with P&G, but she begged for help and made sure her organization learned enough to be independent in the long run. She respected IDEO all the more for sticking with their principles, yet allowing her to steal their best ideas.
Claudia is an individual who has made a massive difference to the world of design and continues to lead the way in leveraging the power of design thinking to overcome challenges and make the world a better place to live. She's a true design champion and we'd like to recognize her for that.
